You are the poem I dreamed of writing
the masterpiece I longed to paint...
You are the shining star I reached for
in my ever-hopeful quest
for life fulfilled...
You are my child...
Now with all things I am blessed.

Age 5

I can't embrace
her lilting pace.
I can't forestall
her errors all.

Nor can I hold
what I behold.
Nor shall I tell
what should be told.

Nor will I catch
what might be caught,
or teach the lesson
I was taught.

I can but stand
and gaze in awe
at all the radiance
which I saw:

the radiance
glowing on her face.
There goes my child.
Her gait is grace.
